February Meeting

The next meeting of the Lincoln Bioneers will be Thursday, February 25th, from 6-10pm. Dinner is potluck, and there will be lots of great conversations.

It will be at Anne and Adam Hintz's house at 1611 Van Dorn St. Call 421-8464 if you need directions.

Jackie will host a Bioneer gathering on January 28, 2010 at 6:30 pm. There
will be a potluck and a 30 minute DVD from the October 2009 conference
"Joanna Macy- The Hidden Promise of our Dark Age: Discovering our Wisdom,
Strength, and Beauty in the Midst of a Crisis". For location and to RSVP,

Lonesome Traveler, a bluegrass band from Fort Collins Colorado travels in an airport diesel shuttle bus converted to run on straight vegetable oil. They collect spent vegetable oil from Chinese restaurants and fast food joints along the road as they tour America.

They will talk about how to operate a veg oil vehicle and show "Fry Daddy", their bus at 6:15 to 6:45 pm before their concert January 23, 2010 The talk is free at the 7th Street Loft at 7th and K Streets. Concert info follows below.

*Saturday January 23*,* 2010* the bluegrass band *Lonesome Traveler* will perform on the LAFTA stage,at 7:30 pm on the third floor in the 7th street loft located at 7th and K streets. Lonesome Traveler is a six-piece acoustic band from Colorado's front range with a bluegrass driver's license, a certificate of songwriting, and a sheriff's badge of cool. The band members are Jodi Boyce (mandolin/vocals), Evan Neal (upright bass/vocals), Rick Scott (guitar/vocals), Dustin Scott (guitar/vocals), Chad Fisher (fiddle/vocals/mandolin), and Ansel Foxley (resonator guitar/vocals). Featuring tight two- and three-part harmonies and
scintillating instrumentals on traditional and original tunes as it mines the rich vein of Americana bluegrass, folk, blues, country, and Celtic sounds it is easy to see the talent that earned Lonesome Traveler second place finishes in both the Telluride and Rockygrass band contests. Although tis is the first time LAFTA has featured the group, they have played in Lincoln before. You won't want to miss the next video and discussion -- we will list to Van Jones talk about how the green economy can be expanded to reach everyone. He's working with urban young people in Oakland, teaching them skills for the green industry. Van Jones is a powerful speaker who will challenge you to think hard about your assumptions. A discussion will follow.

We'll talk about the fantastic 2008 conference that many of us just attended, and then listen to one of the speakers, Rick Reed, via DVD.

Rick Reed is a senior advisor to the Garfield Foundation, leading its collaborative clean energy project, RE-AMP (a community of 10 foundations and 70 NGOs using system-mapping and shared learning to align their clean energy strategies across seven states in the upper Midwest). Thanks, in large part, to RE-AMP’s activities, governors throughout the U.S. heartland, in late 2007, committed themselves to reducing global warming pollution from their states by 80% over the next 40 years. With a background in organic farming and molecular biology, Rick has been working in the fields of philanthropy and sustainability for nearly 20 years.

Road trip to Bioneers Conference to Grinnell

Some of us in the Lincoln Bioneers group are planning to attend the Beaming Bioneers Conference in Grinnell Iowa at the end of October.

Grinnell is just four hours away and is a beautiful little town with lots to offer. Last year's conference was well run and both the content from the official Bioneers conference and the local content were informative and inspiring.

The Lincoln Bioneers group will meet for our first video showing of the fall on Thursday, Sept 18th at Meadowlark Coffee (16th and South), at 7pm. We will watch a video of one of the plenary sessions from the 2007 Bioneers conference.

It will be a potluck dinner with discussion on our plans for attending the Grinnell Beaming Bioneers Conference, our monthly meetings and future activist trainings. All are welcome to come.
